Nintendo is pushing back preorders for the Switch 2 due to concerns about Donald Trump’s newly announced tariffs. According to a statement sent to The Verge by Eddie Garcia on behalf of Nintendo, it says preorders will no longer begin on April 9th:
High tariffs on Vietnam and Cambodia have caused Nintendo to push back the preorder date for the Switch 2 as the company assesses market conditions.
Nintendo announced on Friday that its new Switch 2 will no longer be available for preorder next week due to tariff concerns. While the company is unsure when the new preorder date will be, the launch date is currently the same.
The new video game console will still be released in June, the Japanese company said. Its price was unveiled as $450 this week.

Ironically, the Steam Deck is also the Switch 2’s biggest threat. While Nintendo’s new console may have Valve’s beat on screen resolution, refresh rate, and a custom Nvidia processor capable of DLSS and ray tracing, Steam trumps it in value, particularly with game prices.
Backward compatibility has been one of the Nintendo Switch 2 ‘s major talking points, but Nintendo has revealed the console doesn’t natively run Switch games. Instead, Nintendo designed its own emulator to run original Switch games on the new console, as it shares no hardware with its predecessor.
