The government of President Emmanuel Macron collapsed Wednesday after the National Assembly voted for the first time in more than a half-century to oust a prime minister from office, a sign of the political gridlock that has paralyzed France,

French Prime Minister Michel Barnier's government is in tatters after he lost a historic no-confidence vote prompted by budget disputes. France's far-right and left-wing forces joined together to vote to oust Mr Barnier after just a few months in the job,

Barnier is expected to resign after French lawmakers voted 331 out of 574 in support of the no-confidence motion.
