Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers praised Cameron Carter-Vickers and his side’s mentality after they dug out a Champions League point following the defender’s disastrous own goal against Club Brugge. The normally reliable centre-back passed the ball into his own net in the 26th minute after failing to spot goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel’s positioning.

Brendan Rodgers insists Celtic are still well on course for their minimum target of a Champions League playoff spot despite being held at home by Club Brugge. Daizen Maeda’s second half stunner cancelled out Cameron Carter-Vickers’ calamitous own goal which stunned Parkhead to give the Belgians the lead.

Rodgers also praised Carter-Vickers for how he put an uncharacteristic error aside to play his part in Celtic’s fightback. The centre-back failed to note Kasper Schmeichel was out of position when he rolled a pass back towards goal and watched in anguish as it rolled over the line and into the bottom corner of the net.
