The second peak of an ongoing atmospheric river storm arrived in Northern California Monday afternoon, prompting flood watches and a winter storm warning up in the Sierra.

Rain fell across northern California on Saturday and could continue for days with an atmospheric river hanging over the region like a sopping wet towel. Through Friday, the coastal mountains are expected to record 6 to 15 inches of rain,

Heavy precipitation is falling mostly in mountain areas. A flood watch in also in effect for the coast of central California, including the San Francisco Bay Area and Sacramento Valley.

The West Coast is in the middle of a long-lasting and potent atmospheric river event, which will bring days of heavy rain and mountain snow throughout the week ahead.
