The Geminid meteor shower, which NASA calls one of the "best meteor showers of the year," is expected to peak Friday and Saturday. The big picture: The shower appears around mid-December each year as Earth passes through the debris left behind by the asteroid 3200 Phaethon.

Thankfully, the Geminids can be seen across the globe, even down here in Florida. The best times to see them are during the night and predawn hours when it's darkest outside. The shower typically starts around 9 or 10 p.m.

While you're already looking up for drones, you can also catch the Geminids meteor shower. One of the most reliable and spectacular celestial events of the year will peak this weekend, offering stargazers a chance to see up to 120 meteors per hour under ideal conditions, according to NASA.
