The threat of large waves and 2 to 4 feet of surge flooding forced evacuations across North Carolina’s barrier islands, including some communities that hadn’t left since Hurricane Dorian in 2019.

According to NHC, a Storm Surge Watch means, "A possibility of life- threatening inundation, from rising water moving inland from the coastline, in the indicated locations during the next 48 hours."
