COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Vice President JD Vance’s security detail had an Ohio river’s water level raised last weekend to accommodate a kayaking trip he and his family took to celebrate his 41st birthday.

Vice President JD Vance's security detail from the Secret Service requested that the Army Corps of Engineers change the outflow of a lake into the Little Miami River in Ohio, The Guardian reports. A spokesman for Vance said the Vice President was unaware of the "protective measures" undertaken by the Secret Service.

The Army Corps of Engineers was told to change the outflow of an Ohio lake to “support the safe navigation” of the security detail, but the move raised questions about the potential exploitation of public infrastructure for personal use.
