A man opened fire at Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) chief Sukhbir Singh Badal this morning while he was serving his penance at the entrance of the Golden Temple in Amritsar. The shooter was overpowered by people present on the spot, and was later arrested. The shooter has reportedly been identified as Narain Singh Chaura.

Sukhbir Singh Badal and other SAD leaders were at the Golden Temple to perform the duty of a 'sewadar' or volunteer after the Sikh clergy pronounced the 'tankhah' (religious punishment) when he was shot at.

SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal was attacked at Golden Temple in Amritsar where he was offering 'seva'. The attacker was overpowered by SAD supporters and later arrested by police.

Bullets were fired on Wednesday at Golden Temple premises in Punjab's Amritsar where Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leaders, including party chief Sukhbir Singh Badal, are offering 'seva' under the religious punishments pronounced for them by Sri Akal Takht Sahib.
