Broughton is the sixth Longhorn taken thus far in the 2025 draft, and the fourth member of the Horns’ defense. Jahdae Barron, Alfred Collins and Andrew Mukuba all went in the first two rounds. Broughton was a rarity in modern college football, playing his entire five-year college career in Austin.

Former Texas Longhorns defensive back Vernon Broughton has been drafted by the New Orleans Saints. The Houston native was taken 71st in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Broughton spent much of his career backing up former stars Byron Murphy and T’Vondre Sweat. This year, as a starter Broughton blossomed into a third round NFL Draft pick.
