Four civilians have been killed in a Ukrainian attack on Russia's western Kursk region, Russian officials say.

The Kremlin said on Wednesday it was awaiting details from Washington about a proposal for a 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine, while senior Moscow sources said a deal would have to take account of Russia's advances and address its concerns.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Tuesday that Ukraine had accepted a 30-day ceasefire proposed by the United States, following critical peace talks between US and Ukrainian officials in Saudi Arabia.

The Kremlin said on Wednesday that it needed to be briefed by the United States on the outcome of U.S.-Ukrainian talks in Saudi Arabia before commenting on whether a proposed ceasefire in Ukraine was acceptable to Russia.

The announcements emerged as senior officials from Ukraine and the United States opened talks in Saudi Arabia focused on ending Moscow’s three-year war against Kyiv.

The resumption of U.S. military and intelligence aid for Ukraine follows a contentious White House meeting between the American and Ukrainain leaders, but Moscow is unlikely to agree to the proposed ceasefire.

Starmer said he would use a meeting of world leaders that Britain is convening on Saturday to discuss next steps. "We are ready to help bring an end to this war in a just and perm
