R B Leipzig sporting director Marcel Schäfer confirmed that “strong interest” has been shown in the club’s star forward Benjamin Šeško at the same time as reports reveal an acceleration in Manchester United’s pursuit of a player Newcastle United have already bid for.

Manchester United are lining up their first offer for Benjamin Sesko after Newcastle started what RB Leipzig hope will become a “bidding war” for the striker. Newcastle have tabled an offer worth £69.8million including add-ons and United are said to be ready to match that bid after fresh talks with Leipzig over the weekend.

United are expected to go head-to-head with Newcastle for Sesko, following reports that Alexander Isak is considering exploring his options away from Tyneside. Liverpool have already had a bid of £110m rejected.
