President Joe Biden on Tuesday celebrated the acceptance of a ceasefire deal brokered by the United States to end the "devastating conflict" between Israel and the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah after more than a year of fighting.

After confirming that Israel has approved a United States-brokered ceasefire agreement with Lebanon’s Hezbollah, President Joe Biden said his administration "in the coming days" would make a renewed push for a ceasefire in Gaza.

Hamas said it was open to efforts to bring an end to its 13-month-old war with the Jewish state in Gaza as senior officials hailed the Israel-Hezbollah agreement.

Analysts say significant gaps remain, including over the presence of Israeli troops in Gaza and Hamas’s future role.

A ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah took effect before dawn on Wednesday, bringing a halt to hostilities that had escalated sharply in recent months and overshadowed Israel's parallel conflict in Gaza against Palestinian Hamas militants.
