Parts of the Northeast are under the threat of severe thunderstorms on Thursday, with 60 million people on alert for severe weather. A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect up and down the I-95 corridor through 9 p.

At 1:22 p.m. on Thursday, the NWS Blacksburg VA issued a severe thunderstorm warning in effect until 2:15 p.m. The warning is for Alleghany, Surry, Wilkes and Yadkin counties.

A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect in central New Hampshire. The warning is posted for portions of Sullivan, Grafton, Belknap and Merrimack counties until 5:15 p.m. Affected communities include Laconia, New Hampton, Meredith, Ashland, Gilford and Plymouth. Potential storm impacts include 60-mph wind gusts and hail.
