New Delhi: The Supreme Court of India has dismissed the review petition seeking the legalisation of same-sex marriage. This decision comes after a five-judge Constitution Bench ruled in October 2023 that same-sex couples do not have a fundamental right to marry. A bench headed by Justice BR Gavai stated that there was no error in the judgment.

The review bench did not find any error in the judgement pronounced in 2023 on Marriage Equality case where the majority of the judges refused legal sanction of queer marriages.

The Supreme Court on Thursday rejected a bundle of review petitions against its October 2023 judgment in the same-sex marriage case.

In its latest ruling on same-sex marriages, the top court stated that there was "no error apparent on the face of the record" in its earlier judgment. The bench emphasised that the views expressed in the original verdict were in accordance with the law and required no further interference.

The resolution, if passed, would signal to the Supreme Court that the state wants marriage equality overturned.
