Australia has warned travelers against drinking spirits made by a Laos distiller, following the deaths of six foreign tourists from suspected methanol poisoning in the Southeast Asian country.

Authorities in Laos have reportedly banned the sale and consumption of a vodka and whisky brand after six tourists died from suspected methanol poisoning in Vang Vieng earlier this month. An Australia travel advisory published on Friday said the Southeast Asian country has banned Tiger Vodka and Tiger Whisky.

It comes after six tourists have died in the country, including a 57-year-old American man, after suspected methanol poisoning.

Twelve individuals, including 2 Indians, were arrested in Laos after a methanol poisoning incident that killed 6 tourists. The factory producing Tiger Vodka and Whiskey was shut down and its owner arrested.

Police in Laos have reportedly arrested the owner of a factory which reportedly supplied the poisoned alcohol that claimed the lives of six backpackers, including a British lawyer. Simone White, 28, died while on holiday with two friends after they accepted free vodka shots from Nana Backpackers Hostel in Vang Vieng, a popular tourist destination.

Three more people allegedly linked to the Laos methanol poisonings that killed two Danish tourists were arrested.
