MOUNT VERNON, Ill. (KFVS) - Police have identified the two men killed during an early morning shooting in Mount Vernon, Illinois. Mount Vernon Police say Zomarrius Williams (20), of Mount Vernon and Demonta Woodward (26) of Mounds, Illinois were shot and killed early Sunday morning.
Vernon police are warning residents about a phone scam where someone falsely claims to be an officer. Police said in the scam, someone falsely claims to be a Vernon police officer. During the call, officers said the caller says there is an arrest warrant out for the person for missing jury duty.

No injuries were reported after a fire on Sunday in Vernon, officials said. The fire took place in the basement of a building on Haney Lane. The residents of the house were able to evacuate and find other living arrangements.
