David Prosser, who rose to become speaker of the Wisconsin Assembly before an 18-year tenure on the state Supreme Court that was marked by a heated altercation with another justice, has died.

According to WTMJ, former Justice David T. Prosser, Jr. died over the weekend at the age of 81 after battling cancer in recent months. Throughout his more than 40-year career, Prosser held the important positions of Outagamie County District Attorney and Speaker and Minority Leader in the Wisconsin Assembly.

(The Center Square) – Former Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice and Assembly Speaker David Prosser died Sunday. He was 81. The cause of death was cancer. Prosser was appointed to the Supreme Court in 1998 by Gov. Tommy Thompson and then was reelected to the court in 2001 and 2011 before retiring in 2016 after 18 years.

APPLETON, Wis–Former Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice David Prosser has died. Prosser passed away over the weekend at the age of 81. Before serving on the high court, the Appleton native was a district attorney and judge in Outagamie County. He then served 18-years in the state Assembly, including one term as Speaker.
