Five nonprofits were the recipients of Community Service Grants worth a total of $10,750 from the Rotary Club of Aiken on June 16.

Traffic Alert on I-20 detoured near Aiken County until early next week following a strike by a tractor-trailer. The overpass bridge on Old Vaucluse Road is damaged beyond repair, requiring demolition and removal.

Aiken County authorities are learning more about a single-vehicle crash that killed the 42-year-old driver Sunday morning.

The late Iris Freeman teamed up with Harry Shealy in the 1990s to found the Aiken County Open Land Trust, which later became the Aiken Land Conservancy. Cherie Hewitt was shot and killed at about 2:30 a.m. on the 100 block of Whaley Street in Warrenville, noted Aiken County Coroner Darryl M. Ables. She was found unresponsive in the home and pronounced dead at about 3 a.m.

An Aiken County man is behind bars for allegedly sexually assaulting an 8-year-old girl. Reports say that 50-year-old Kenneth Gray began inappropriately touching the victim in 2021. She told police that her last encounter with Gray was in January 2025.
