The union representing Canada Post workers says the Crown corporation has been laying striking employees off as the labour action by more than 55,000 workers approaches the two-week mark.

For parents who wish to send a letter to Santa, envelopes can also be put into the mailbox, addressed to Santa at the North Pole, with the postal code H0H 0H0. Postage stamps are not required. If that isn’t an option, you may also leave a letter out for Santa on Christmas Eve.

The U.S. Postal Service has temporarily suspended mail service to Canada amid an ongoing national strike by the Canadian Union of Postal Workers, which represents workers for the country’s primary postal service.

As of Wednesday afternoon, Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) remained in talks, but had not yet reached an agreement to end the national postal strike.

For an Ontario bride-to-be, the Canada Post strike means no wedding flowers on her big day. Katherine Edwards, a resident of Midland, Ont., is scheduled to get married on Dec. 7 and she is missing her artificial flowers because they are stuck in the mail due to the national postal strike.
