BPS officials to recommend closing multiple schools, including Excel High in South Boston
Excel High School, a smaller school housed within the former South Boston High School building, had only 387 students last year, according to state data. This “dwindling” enrollment, as Skipper called it, trended down over the past decade or so from a peak of 660 students in 2011-12.
Boston Public Schools proposes school closures and mergers by end of next school year
Boston Mayor Michelle Wu and Superintendent Mary Skipper officially announced on Tuesday that they plan to close three schools, including Excel High School in South Boston, at the end of the 2025-2026 school year.
The district announced plans to shutter the K-6 Dever Elementary in Dorchester as well as Excel High School in South Boston.
