United Flight 108 had just departed for an hours-long flight to Germany, when one of its engines malfunctioned.

The Boeing 787, flying from Washington, D.C., to Munich, had to make hasty return to the airport "to address a mechanical issue," the carrier said.

A disaster was seemingly averted when a United Airlines flight bound for Munich, Germany, was forced to make an emergency landing shortly after taking off from Washington Dulles International Airport.
