A ban on indoor and outdoor wood burning was extended through Thursday for much of Southern California due to a forecast of high air pollution in the area.

Much of Southern California has been placed under a wood-burning ban due to poor air quality lingering over the area. The ban went into effect on Wednesday and will last through at least 11:59 p.m. Thursday evening, according to the South Coast Air Quality Management District.

An air quality alert was issued on Wednesday at 1:09 p.m. in effect until Friday at midnight. The alert is for Catalina and Santa Barbara Islands, Santa Clarita Valley, Malibu Coast, Los Angeles, Palos Verdes Hills,

The residential wood-burning ban will be in effect until at least 11:59 p.m. Wednesday for all those in the South Coast Air Basin, including the non-desert portions of Los Angeles, Riverside and San Bernardino counties,
